One Click at the wrong Place, and everything, just everything could be History...! Happen to my a short while ago, this is, why I know. Certainly, when editing Perl Files, one must be aware of a few Basic Rules. When enhancing Scripts, adding Stuff, e.t.c, one can SCREW UP anywhere. But doing such with the EA Flatfile DB, the Software itself will not stop entire operation or present mismatching Content-Results. Attacking a Standard (EA 1.5x type) Flatfile DB, just One single Member- or Item- File could eventually be damaged or destroyed because of whatever, unknown, Reason, but not the entire 'Battery' of the Site. This specific (User or Item) File then would, if not deleted by the System itself, eventually be removed, downloaded and even fixed easy by regular FTP-Connect. All this usually without disrupting ongoing Site Activity or Function in any way! This is, what I call, 'the (old) Swiss Way of securing important Things'. Or at least, as it used to be - yesterday, when I was young.... Perl - Why do we use it? Perl (Practical Extraction and Reporting Language) was designed as a 'Text-processing' Language for use in administering Computer Systems. Because of it's strength in Searching and Sorting Text Files, Perl is a Natural to be used for EveryAuction or similar Type CGI Server Applications. Perl is an "interpreted" Language. A Perl Program is just a Text File, it's Content is processed by the Perl Interpreter at run-time. Perl is not a 'compiled' Language like C++. This makes it a little slower than 'compiled' Languages, but it allows individual programming techniques and easy modification with any standard Text Editor. And..., if you 'can' PHP, then Perl is just one step away!

Why am I doing this for free? During a rather 'shady' Period, scripting with EveryAuction Software has been a big Aid, adding Freedom, (Forum-) Diversity and much 'needed' Motivation to my personal Life. Because of this, I feel that EveryAuction Style Perl Coding shall not vanish, who knows, others may find themselfs in similar Situations, also looking for something to help them 'suppress' the daily 'Garbage', at least, once in a while.
